The 3rd International Conferences on Transformative Mediation
New Waves of Transformative Practice :
"New Voices, New Frontiers, New Challenges"

Aug. 25-26, 2008, at University of California, Santa Barbara

The Institute for the Study for Conflict Transformation invites you to consider submitting a proposal to present a workshop at its Third International Conference on Transformative Mediation to be held August 25-26, 2008 at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The conference theme is: "New Waves of Transformative Practice: New Voices, New Frontiers, New Challenges."

As our theme makes clear, we're looking for workshops that are rooted in or consistent with transformative principles and that push thinking and practice to the next level. Our goals are to have a top quality conference that:

  • Is consistent with the conference theme,
  • Reflects the diverse voices involved in transformative mediation,
  • Supports connections among those attending, and
  • Supports practitioners who are committed to transformative practice

We'd like workshops to be interactive or otherwise engaging. Workshop slots will be 2 hours in length, allowing presenters more time to present information and engage with participants.

Suggested categories for workshops are:
  • Community mediation
  • Ethical or practice challenges
  • Ethnic and/or political conflict intervention
  • Mediation skills
  • Organizational, large group or multi-party intervention
  • Promoting and supporting transformative practice
  • Research and/or Theory
  • Targeted mediation programs (e.g. elder, youth, victim-offender)
  • Training
